Household waste collections in adverse weather

We have received the following message from Wokingham Borough Council, regarding the weekly waste and recycling collections:

Due to adverse weather conditions we’ve unfortunately had to suspend collections with the safety of the collectors, residents and other road users in mind.

Our intention is to re-start collections on a catch-up basis and so the likelihood is that your next collection day will be delayed and could include a Saturday to help us catch up.

I would therefore be grateful if you could place your waste out as normal on your usual day. However, if we can’t get to you on that day please leave your waste out in the usual place and we will collect it as soon as possible.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

M4 Junction 10 to 11 River Loddon (Bridge Refurbishment) – Overnight closure on Tuesday 28 November

M4 Junction 10 to 11 River Loddon (Bridge Refurbishment) – Overnight closure on Tuesday 28 November

The scheme to replace the waterproofing material and expansion joints of the bridge which carries the M4 motorway over the River Loddon, between Junctions 10 and 11 in Berkshire has now commenced.

To allow the narrow lane traffic management to be installed on the M4  eastbound carriageway, there will be a full closure of the M4 from junction 11 to junction 10 overnight (between 11pm and 6am) on Tuesday 28 November.  The closure will be delayed to allow supporters at the Reading Football Club match to leave the stadium.

During the closure a clearly signed diversion will be in place via Lower Earley Way.

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused – if you have any queries please log this with the Highways England customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000 or email info@highwaysengland.co.uk

Obituary – Cllr Roy Pike

It is with great sadness we report that Councillor Roy Pike has passed away at the age of 89.  Roy joined the Parish Council in May 2003, serving the parish and local residents for around 15 years.

Roy served on the Planning and Highways Committee, the Finance Committee, the Staffing Committee and the Grants Working Party during his time with the council. He also represented the parish council on the Shinfield and Swallowfield Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) for many years. Prior to retiring, Roy worked for Sigmund Pulsometer Pumps, known as ‘SPP’ an engineering firm based in Reading, who are a leading manufacturer of centrifugal pumps and associated systems. Roy was married with 2 daughters.

In later years, he enjoyed taking coach trips away in the UK, and was a keen gardener, often giving out valuable gardening tips and advice and also a keen cake baker. Roy gave the staff a Christmas gift every year in the form of a bowl of indoor hyacinths, and would seek regular updates on how successfully they bloomed, enjoying seeing photographs of them.

Roy was a stickler for doing things properly, and would ask questions and challenge ideas that he felt were not correct. He sought to serve his residents by ensuring efficient use of the parish council’s finances, and would seek to obtain the best value for money at all times.   We will remember Roy for his sense of humour, and his determination to ensure that things were right.
