Summer Reading Challenge 2016
The Big Friendly Read is the summer reading challenge theme for 2016 at Wokingham borough libraries. This is part of the Roald Dahl 100 celebrations. Children can read whatever they like – fact books, joke books, picture books, audio books. They just have to borrow the 6 books from the library. Every time they finish a book they’ll receive a collector’s card to put into a special collectors folder. When they’ve read 6 books they’ll receive a certificate and a medal for completing the challenge.
The challenge will run from until Sunday 11 September 2016.
We will be running the following activities over the summer holidays in August, please contact the relevant library to book a place:
Ali Sparkes Author visit – Come and meet author Ali Sparkes and hear about how she plans and research’s her books. Books will also be on sale and can be signed after the session. For children aged 7 and over

Mad cap words and poetry fun with Rachel Piercy* – For children aged 7 to 11 years old. £2 charge on Thursday August 25

Read with Kali the dog – Pets as Therapy dog Kali will be in the library, ready to be told stories from children aged 6 to 10 years old.

The Twits Storytelling presentation – Mr and Mrs Twit are ready to welcome you to the magical world of Roald Dahl as storyteller John Kirk retells “The Twits” . Warning: this story contains Twits being vile to each other. This 40 minute presentation is suitable for children and families age 6+. “The Twits” is presented with the kind permission of Casarotto Ramsay and the Roald Dahl estate. £3 charge.

If you’re aged between 12 and 19 years old and think you can read 6 books before the end of the summer join our teen reading challenge.
Collect a bookmark from any of our libraries. You’ll receive a stamp on your bookmark each time you take out a book. The challenge runs until 11 September 2016. There will be a prize draw for everyone who completes the challenge with a fabulous Young Adults goodie bag filled with books for young adults.

Pick up a bookmark from any Wokingham Borough Library and get it stamped every time a book is issued.
