Dear colleagues,
The Met office have issued a Level 2 Cold Weather Alert. This means there is a 60% probability of severe cold weather between 0001 on Monday 06 Mar and 2359 on Wednesday 08 Mar, in the South East. A mean temperature of 2°C or less for a period of at least 48 hours and or widespread ice and heavy snow are predicted.
Why is this Alert important?
This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable individuals and disrupt the delivery of services. The winter periods pose a substantial increase in illness and a significant rise in deaths. Please refer to your cold weather plans attached for appropriate preventive action.
What specific preparations do you need to make?
All services need to protect the health of vulnerable groups against harm to health during periods of cold weather. Services should ensure cold weather plans are in place and also need to be aware of what to do if the alert level is raised (i.e. to level 3). Our Public Health Team will notify you if the Alert level is raised.
