Poppy splash for Remembrance Sunday – November 2026
We are looking for volunteers to make poppies, by knitting or crocheting, so we can decorate the fence either side of the war memorial at School Green ready for Remembrance Sunday 2026.
Participation by individuals, local groups and schools would be welcome.
In the new year we will set up a meeting to discuss arrangements and how this will work in practice.
If we have enough interest, we can set up weekly workshops for all to attend for making poppies and socialising.

We would also like donations of red and black Aran or Double Knit synthetic yarn, crocket hooks and knitting needles. If you have some yarn to donate please drop this off at the reception desk at the School Green Centre.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Poppy-Makers (September 2026)
As preparations continue for this year’s Poppy Splash display for Remembrance, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful group of ladies who have spent countless hours crocheting poppies by hand.
Their dedication, creativity, and generosity have resulted in hundreds of beautiful poppies, each carefully crafted and contributing to what promises to be a stunning and meaningful tribute. The countless stitches represent not only remarkable skill but also a shared commitment to remembering those who have served and sacrificed.
Community projects like the Poppy Splash simply would not be possible without volunteers who are willing to give their time and talents so generously. We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and hard work shown by everyone involved.
However, we still need more, next workshop 15th October 2026 at 7pm, everyone welcome and please bring in any poppies you’ve been making at home.
Thank you for helping us create a fitting display of remembrance that will be enjoyed and appreciated by the whole community.
