Please be advised that we will be arranging the removal of a small group of diseased Ash trees located within Shinfield Cemetery, Spencer’s Wood, starting at 8.30am on Monday 28th April 2025.

There is likely to be some disruption for visitors to the cemetery as the car park will be in use by the arboriculture contractor and therefore visitors may need to find alternative parking.  Notices will be placed in strategic areas across the cemetery informing the public of the works to be undertaken and letters sent to owners of graves nearby by the end of this week.

Investigations carried out by our own tree management team and local tree surgeons have identified the beginning of Ash dieback disease along with showing signs of being ‘under stress’.    There has also been a significant amount of dead wood falling from the trees recently which has been landing across the graves under the tree canopy.

Following detailed discussions around the condition of the trees in the cemetery and concerns of potential risk of harm to visitors, the decision has been taken that they should be removed as soon as practicably possible.

Whilst it is disappointing to be removing these trees, we will be replanting new varieties of trees in alternative areas of the cemetery as soon as appropriate to do so.
