Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Spencers Wood Recreation Ground 3rd June

Shinfield Parish Council supported this event and our Chairman, Andrew Grimes delivered his speech – see below

Welcome everybody. Welcome to all our residents.

I am Andrew Grimes and I am the Chair of Shinfield Parish Council.

I am pleased to have been invited to this gathering.

We are here today to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the second in 1952.

For many of us the Queen has been a constant in an everchanging world seeing governments come and governments go. It is a role that has made this country a great place to live for all of us: citizens and non-citizens alike.

It is wonderful to see you all gathered here, with family, friends and neighbours for this celebration after the events of the last 2 years with the Covid Pandemic. I know how difficult that time has been for individuals and families and the great the efforts made by everybody to keep themselves and others safe and healthy.

I hope you will agree with me that we are thankful that this is now coming to an end.

I would like to thank the Organising Committee for setting up this event and the Parish Council for providing funding to enable the Committee and the other volunteers to deliver this event.

Ladies and Gentlemen; We will now toast the Queen.

Charge you glasses and be upstanding, if you can, and join me in the loyal toast.

To Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second,

“THE QUEEN”

Long may she reign over us.

We will now join together singing the National Anthem

[Anthem]

Thank you all. Please enjoy the rest of the day.
