“Chairman of the Parish Council Andrew Grimes introduced the concept of SHINE (Safer, Healthier, Interesting Neighbourhoods Engaging everyone) to an audience of 40 people at a Parish Meeting on Thursday 29th June. SHINE will provide a focus for the council’s work over the next four year period with significant effort being made to engage with as many residents as possible about the council’s work. A warm thank you to those who attended and took part in the discussion.
This was followed by what it is hoped will become an annual Shinfield Parish Council quiz with 8 teams taking part. With subjects as varied as Art, Firsts, “Postcards from the Parish” and a good sprinkling of general knowledge questions it was a close run thing with the winners pipping their nearest rivals by only two points.
With 80 points the winners were a team representing Shinfield Players who will use the £250 first prize to buy an air-conditioning unit for their youth section. They kindly donated their personal prize of a box of chocolates and a bottle of prosecco to the runners up ABC2 to Read and Berkshire MS Therapy Centre respectively.”
