The design may not be everyone’s first choice, but it was the clear favourite for many and offers something distinctive for the community to enjoy. Thank you to all those who took the time to email in giving feedback, we received approx. 200 responses.
Why is public art important?
Public art adds character, creates a strong sense of place, and gives communities something unique to be proud of. A piece like this can become a well-loved local landmark, a talking point, a symbol of identity that helps people feel more connected to where they live and by creating a place people feel proud of, public art can help encourage respect for the area and even lead to less littering.
Who is covering the costs?
The sculpture is being funded through CIL (developer contributions), which has been allocated to improve the area outside the School Green Centre. As the space develops into a pedestrianised plaza, the artwork will help create an attractive and welcoming focal point.
Although the final design details are yet to be decided, we can confirm the sculpture will be in granite (not as pictured) and we will of course, keep our community updated with further updates as and when decided.
